The City of Cayce has added another feather to its cap by receiving the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for Fiscal Year 2021-2022. Both accolades were bestowed upon the city by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
The City Council, in a recent session, acknowledged and commended the exceptional efforts of the Cayce Finance Team, comprising Kelly McMullen, Cayce Municipal Treasurer; Allison Barrs, Financial Reporting Manager; and Leila Williams, Staff Accountant. These awards affirm the city’s commitment to financial transparency and accountability.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, an esteemed recognition from GFOA, is granted to entities that exhibit an unwavering commitment to presenting their financial information clearly and comprehensively. The impartial panel of judges evaluated Cayce’s budget report and concluded that it met the program’s high standards. The report not only demonstrated a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” but also succeeded in clearly communicating the city’s financial narrative, motivating potential users, and encouraging various user groups to engage with the report.
In addition to receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, Cayce was also honored with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Fiscal Year 2021-2022. This certificate further solidifies the city’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of financial reporting and transparency.
Cayce now stands among an elite group of only six municipalities in South Carolina to have received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year. Remarkably, across the entire program, only about 1,800 governments, including states, cities, counties, special districts, and school districts, have been recognized for their commitment to transparency in budgeting.
Tracy Hegler, Cayce City Manager, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “Our priority is to be good stewards with public money. I could not be prouder of our Cayce staff that works hard year-round to ensure we maintain the highest level of transparency and fiscal accountability.”
The recognition underscores Cayce’s commitment to excellence in financial management and sets a benchmark for other municipalities in the region. As a city that values transparency and fiscal responsibility, Cayce continues to be a shining example of effective governance and stewardship of public resources.
