The City of Cayce is giving its Code Compliance Department a fresh, new look aimed at better serving the community. Interim City Manager Jim Crosland emphasized the department’s role in helping citizens and businesses stay in compliance with city regulations. “Cayce is open for business, and our staff is here to serve as a resource,” Crosland said.
The team, consisting of Ken Walters, Jarrett Epperson, and Britany Smoak, now sports bright green uniforms, a color chosen under the City of Cayce brand to symbolize “Go,” reflecting progress and development. The department wants to change the perception that Code Compliance is solely about issuing tickets. Instead, their focus is on working with residents and businesses to provide the information and resources needed to maintain compliance.
Ken Walters, a Cayce Code Compliance Officer and Residential Building Inspector, highlighted the broader role of the department. “It is much more than just a property’s appearance. It is the responsibility of all local governments to enforce safety and health precautions,” he said. Walters encouraged residents to take pride in their community and be active participants in creating a safe and attractive environment.
The Cayce Code Compliance Department offers several resources to assist residents:
- All city ordinances are available online at Cayce Ordinances.
- If you receive a green door hanger from the department, it includes direct contact numbers for the compliance team, making it easy to reach out for assistance.
- The department also manages the Cayce Community Tool Shed, where residents can rent tools needed to address potential code violations.
