Crash Course Columbia Set to Explore and Celebrate City Highlights

Columbia Opportunity Resource’s (COR) Crash Course Columbia is gearing up for its 2024 edition on March 7-8. This program, now in its 11th year, offers participants the chance to explore and appreciate the diverse offerings of Columbia. The itinerary includes visits to entertainment districts, meetings with community leaders, tours of tourism hotspots, interactions with nonprofits, and dining experiences at local restaurants. This year’s program covers three districts, involves over 10 community leaders, showcases five tourism hotspots, introduces five nonprofits, features four local restaurants, and helps participants become local champions. Tickets for the Crash Course Columbia start at $125 and can be purchased online at ourcor.org.

The evening of March 7 includes patio bites and sips at Smoked, a tour of the Main Street District leading to Boyd Plaza for First Thursday on Main, providing a taste of downtown’s arts and culture scene. The morning of March 8 begins in Cayce with breakfast at Piecewise Coffee, followed by visits to Riverbanks Zoo, Candi Lane by the river, lunch at Publico in Five Points, and an interactive activity. The day concludes with an early happy hour at Steel Hands Brewing. Crash Course Columbia aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of the city’s attractions and opportunities.

The program’s chair, Columbia City Councilman Peter M. Brown, emphasizes its value in connecting citizens with community development and organizations. The Crash Course Columbia is positioned as a unique opportunity for businesses and residents to invest in the city, promoting positive change and growth. The program’s success is attributed to the support of local businesses and partnerships with entities like Experience Columbia SC and Richland County Economic Development. Tickets are priced at $125 for COR members, $200 for nonprofit partners, and $250 for individuals, including food, drinks, experiences, transportation, and a complimentary one-year COR membership. Corporate packages are also available.

In addition to Crash Course Columbia, COR’s student-focused initiative, Capture Columbia, is set to return for Summer 2024. Scheduled for five Wednesdays from June 12 to July 17, Capture Columbia aims to connect college-age students in the region with inspiring speakers and diverse districts. Community members interested in networking with students can register online.

These initiatives highlight COR’s commitment to connecting individuals with the vibrant community of Columbia, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging engagement with local opportunities.
