Former Gray Collegiate Academy and Clemson quarterback Hunter Helms is now playing at Rhode Island.
He came off the bench to guide the Rams to three scoring drives in the 28-21 win over Long island.
The Sharks led 14-7 through three quarters when Helms entered the game. The first scoring drive of nine plays and 80 yards ended with an 11-yard touchdown run by Malik Grant.
After Long Island reclaimed the lead, the Rams answered with another scoring drive capped by a Helms’ 4-yard keeper for a touchdown.
A final scoring drive ended with Grant’s third touchdown of the game. Helms finished 7-10 passing for 90 yards.
Up next for Rhode Island (3-1) is Hampton on Oct. 5.
