Greater CWC Chamber Awards Local Businesses and Community Leaders at Annual Gala

The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual gala on Wednesday, August 21, at Stone River, offering a unique and laid-back twist on the traditional event. With a “Jimmy Buffet Feathers and Fins” theme, the evening transformed into an official “Un-Gala” full of fun and celebration.

Located at 1006 12th Street in Cayce, the Greater CWC Chamber of Commerce recognized several local businesses and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the community.

Small Business of the Year: First Reliance Bank

First Reliance Bank was honored as the Small Business of the Year for its active involvement with the Chamber over the past two years. Nathan Ruth, branch manager of the West Columbia site, and Brent Mackie, Market President, played key roles in the bank’s engagement, with Mackie serving on the Board of Directors and establishing the Finance Audit Committee. The bank also sponsored the Chamber’s Cohort Program, which has graduated over 40 local professionals. Joanne Brady, the new branch manager of West Columbia, has also been an integral part of the Chamber, serving as a CWC Cohort graduate, class leader for the Alumni group, and ambassador.

Citizen of the Year: Mrs. Debbie Summers

Debbie Summers was celebrated as Citizen of the Year for her two decades of service on the Lexington County Council. Summers, who served as the Lexington County Advisor to the CWC Chamber of Commerce, was the first woman to chair the Lexington County Council. Known for her dedication and commitment to doing what is right for her community, Summers continues to serve as a true example of public service.

Large Business of the Year: Pyramid Contracting

Pyramid Contracting, led by President Bobby Alexander and Business Development Manager Lucia Smith, was awarded Large Business of the Year. Founded in 2003, Pyramid has expanded throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia while maintaining strong ties to the local community. The company has been instrumental in revitalizing areas within the CWC, including upgrading homes in the River District and developing dormant business sites. Recently, Pyramid completed the new SC Education building at the Farmers Market, contributing to the local economy by bringing in new workers to the area.

Volunteer of the Year: Steve Cohen

Steve Cohen was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for his extensive contributions to the Chamber. Even after completing his term on the Board, Cohen remained deeply involved, organizing events, securing food, and even serving as the Chamber’s “on-call” maintenance man. Cohen has been a key figure in the annual Christmas Parade and has dedicated 20 years to organizing the Rhythm on the River Concert Series each spring and fall.

Spirit Award: Butch Wallace

Butch Wallace received the Spirit Award for his unwavering support of small businesses and his leadership as Vice Chair on the Greater CWC Board of Directors. As the owner of Butch Wallace State Farm Agency in Cayce, Wallace is known for his professionalism, warmth, and positive energy, which have made a significant impact on the community. His kindness and support truly embody the spirit of the CWC.
