The “Golden Peanut” remains in Lexington for another year.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon repeated as champion of the Boiled Peanut Eating contest held Oct. 11 at the South Carolina State Fair.

The contest was held by the Coastal Plain League champion Lexington County Blowfish.

Koon finished off the most boiled peanuts to beat out seven other media personalities to claim the “Golden Peanut” trophy for the second straight year. Originally the size of a hand, the larger sized trophy was provided by Colucci Custom Awards in Irmo.
