Legionnaires from American Legion Post 193 of Chapin will lay to rest the cremated remains of four veterans February 8 at 11 am.
The unclaimed remains will be interred at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. They are three previously unclaimed U.S. Army veterans, Sergeant (Ret) Randal Blaine Shorter, Corporal Samuel Barnes, Specialist James Clyde Hutchens Jr., and one previously unclaimed veteran of the U.S. Navy, Seaman Recruit Eugene Williams.
The American Legion, Patriot Guard, Vietnam Veterans of America, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, and many other veterans from across the state will ensure the four receive the honorable and dignified interment they deserve.
They will be transported by Moseley Funeral and Cremation Service and escorted to the Fort Jackson National Cemetery from Legion Post 193 at 102 Lexington Avenue in Chapin at 10:15 am by American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard Riders.
Post 193 Chaplain Richard Mullinax will officiate at the ceremony. An Honor Guard from the Army, U.S. Navy and American Legion Post 71, North Augusta will provide full military honors. The public is invited to attend.
