The early season has seen winning basketball adorn Northside Christian Academy as much as holiday decorations.
Both teams are off to fast starts to open the season. The girls’ team are off to their best start in school history at 7-0.
The Lady Crusaders opened the season by winning at the GRAD Athletics Thanksgiving Classic. They have posted double-digit wins over public schools Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Greer Middle College and Silver Bluff and are winning by an average margin of 41.7 points.
In the 64-18 win over the Lady Bulldogs, Northside Christian had a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Leading the way is the scoring duo of guard Evie Godrey and forward Chaelyn Tifre. A sophomore transfer from Lexington, Godrey is averaging a team-high 16.2 points, seven steals and 6.2 assists per game.
The junior Tifre is averaging 13.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game.
Northside Christian Academy is also getting production from guard Maddie Coker and seniors Arabella Yaroszewski and Riah Beckwith.
The Lady Crusaders’ next two games will take place this weekend in the Baron Classic in Sumter. They will face Laurence Manning Academy and host school Wilson Hall.
The boys team was 4-0 entering Saturday’s matchup with Dreher in the CNHY Showcase at Cardinal Newman High School.
It was a tough showing for the Cardinals as they trailed as many as 20 points in the 76-59 loss to the Blue Devils. Hilton Dessausure led them with 20 points and Jason Epps added 11.
