State Museum announces new sponsor

The South Carolina State Museum has announced Colonial Life as its new sponsor for the museum’s Second Shift Twosdays.

Every Tuesday, the museum is open until 8 pm (10 pm during daylight saving time) with a reduced general admission of two for $10, or $5 per person.

Every Second Shift Twosday guests will be able to enjoy all four floors of permanent and changing exhibits like the museum’s new blockbuster exhibit Hall of Heroes, 30th Anniversary Juried Art Exhibit, South Carolina and Reconstruction, 30th Anniversary Exhibit, Fill in the Gap and Mill to Museum.

Other Tuesday night attractions include: a Live Sky show and Black Holes, playing in the planetarium; Ice Age: No Time for Nuts 4D and The Martian 4D Experience, playing in the 4D theater. The Boeing Observatory is also open (weather permitting) for an up-close look at the moon, planets and more.

“Colonial Life is delighted to sponsor Second Shift Twosdays at the South Carolina State Museum,” said Marie McGehee, director, corporate social responsibility. “Having expanded hours during the week provides busy families and individuals additional opportunities to explore, learn and play. The special programs, exhibits and attractions are an added bonus for experiencing an enjoyable evening every Tuesday night. The Second Shift Twosdays sponsorship is the perfect fit for Colonial Life’s charitable approach in helping to ensure enriching educational experiences are available to everyone in our community.”

On select Tuesdays, the museum will host a Unique and Special Needs Night. School groups and families with unique and special needs are invited to share this time and space with others facing similar challenges in a safe, understanding environment. Guests are encouraged to bring equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, noise reducing headphones and other technology. Museum general admission on this evening is free for children and students with special needs and one adult.

On the last Tuesday of each month, the public is invited to bring their stringed instruments and join the members of the South Carolina Bluegrass Association for a fun acoustic jam session in the museum’s east gallery.

Admission to special attractions like Hall of Heroes, planetarium and 4D shows are an additional charge. Planetarium and 4D shows and show times are subject to change. For a list of current shows and show times as well as other Second Shift Twosday activities, visit scmuseum.org.
