The University of South Carolina women’s basketball team will not have the services of junior forward Ashlyn Watkins for the rest of the season.

School officials confirmed the Cardinal Newman graduate suffered a torn ACL during the Jan. 5 win over Mississippi State. She will undergo surgery in the coming weeks, according to the school release.

The junior missed the start of the regular season. She was suspended from the team following her arrest following an incident on Aug. 31.

Watkins was charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping, but they were dismissed in November by a judge after she completed a pre-trial intervention program.

Since returning to the Gamecocks, Watkins had averaged 7.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.86 blocks in 14 games.

South Carolina returns to action Thursday at home against Texas A&M.
