It was three years ago when West Columbia Post 79’s Senior team claimed the S.C. American Legion Baseball title.
Now it’s the Junior AAA team’s turn to play for the championship. West Columbia earned the berth after defeating Richland Post 215 Blue in a Best-of-Three series.
West Columbia rallied to win Game One 10-8 in eight innings at White Knoll High School. Trailing 8-6, it scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and added two more in the eighth on a RBI double by Brayden Hoffman and RBI triple and Hunter Hoffman.
Richland loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning before Hoffman retired the next three batters for the win.
Post 215 evened the series the next night at A.C. Flora High School. A 6-run rally in the top of the fourth inning helped Richland take the 10-6 victory.
Game Three was not played as Richland forfeited due to a lack of players.
West Columbia is now headed to Conway High School for the tournament starting Saturday.
