Playing baseball, shooting fireworks and celebrating birthdays and a state champion.
Lexington County Baseball Stadium is the setting for all of these activities Saturday for the Fourth of July starting at 7 p.m.
The Lexington County Blowfish will hold an intrasquad scrimmage with the Glowfish. Following the 7-inning exhibition, the team will hold its “Fireworks in the Sky” with a patriotic theme.
In addition to celebrating America’s 250th birthday, the team will recognize the 21st birthday of Blowie the Mascot.
Highlighting the evening will be the Gray Collegiate Academy softball team. Fresh off completing an undefeated season and winning a fourth state title, the Lady War Eagles are once again special guests of the Blowfish.
The team and head coach Doug Frye will take part in pre-game activities and will be recognized during the exhibition by Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan.
The Lady War Eagles completed a 34-0 season in repeating as Class 4A champion. Their 36-game winning streak is currently the fifth longest in S.C. High School League history.
Infielder Aspen Boulware, who’s headed to the University of South Carolina, was named for the second year in a row statewide Player of the Year by both Maxpreps.com and Gatorade and Class 4A Player of the Year by the S.C. Coaches Association Women’s Sports.
