City Council awards Bethea with Key to the City

By Thomas Grant Jr.

For the second time in three years, Gray Collegiate Academy boys’ basketball coach Dion Bethea has received a Key to the City.

The City Council of West Columbia recognized Bethea during a Oct. 15 special event. He was recognized for his work with the War Eagles, where he’s won six state titles, and within the West Columbia community.

“Receiving the Key to the City is an incredible honor, and I do not take it lightly,” Bethea said. “I understand that this recognition represents something bigger than me. It represents my family, my upbringing, my friends, my colleagues, my students, and the community that continues to inspire me.”
