The best start in program history continues for Northside Christian Academy.
After the game was delayed two hours due to lightning, the Crusaders battled Spartanburg Christian Academy through three quarters. In the fourth quarter, they scored 14 unanswered points for the 55-38 win to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Senior B.J. Suits rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns. He was also 8-13 passing for 127 yards and a touchdown.
Mac Jackson rushed for 173 yards and two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away for the victory.
River Bluff, Airport win
It was “Homecoming” in The Swamp where the Gators faced an undefeated and ranked W.J. Keenan team.
The Raiders led 20-16 with 6:51 left in the third quarter. Dante Howse threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns to Marcus Simpson to lead Keenan.
Another adversity faced came courtesy of lightning which caused an extended delay.
Once play resumed, River Bluff ended the game with 15 unanswered points for a 31-20 victory.
Caleb Pinkney rushed for two touchdowns, including one in the third quarter to put the Gators up 22-20. Davis Taylor added a keeper with 1:28 left and River Bluff recorded its second safety of the game.
The win improved the Gators to 4-1 on the season.
In Columbia, Airport rolled to a 37-14 win over the Capitols for their second win of the season. The Eagles return to action Oct. 2 at Swansea.
Gray Collegiate fall at home
A fourth-quarter rally fell short for the War Eagles in a 43-36 loss to South Florence.
Trevon Williamson rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Xavier Wright accounted for two touchdowns and 280 passing yards.
Gray Collegiate Academy (3-2) faces another Class 5A test Friday at top-ranked and 4-time defending champion Dutch Fork.
