SC Jazz Foundation kicks off new season

The SC Jazz Masterworks Ensemble will kick off its new season on October 28 at Harbison Theatre with Overjoyed, featuring the music of Stevie Wonder.

The ensemble, under the musical direction of Dr. Robert Gardiner, features some jazz musicians, soloists, and bandleaders from across the Carolinas.

Following the October 28 concert, this season will feature the band in Swingin’ Holidays, December 17; Jazz is for Lovers, Featuring the New York Voices, February 14; An Evening with Regina Carter, April 13; and Saxophone Colossus: Chris Potter, June 15.

“The wide range of Stevie Wonder’s music over six decades, from R&B, pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz, are what makes him and his songs so popular,” said Gardiner, founder and director of the ensemble. “I couldn’t imagine a better start to our most ambitious season yet. Also, the New York Voices, Regina Carter and Chris Potter are internationally acclaimed jazz artists that we are thrilled to bring to the Columbia area.”

Tickets for each of the five concerts are on sale now, priced at $25 to $65 depending on the concert and seating section. Patrons may purchase a season subscription by visiting www.scjazz.org through October 15 for guaranteed seats to each concert.
