Show of Works by Artists Mark Conrardy and Howard Hunt
On March 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., Rob Shaw Framing and Gallery at 324 State St, West Columbia, will host an opening reception for a show featuring artists Mark Conrardy and Howard Hunt. The public is invited to meet the artists, enjoy curated collections of their work, and purchase artwork. The show runs from March 4 to 28, 2022.
Originally from Kansas, Conrardy is a graphic artist-illustrator with the SC Department of Natural Resources. The winner of multiple awards in shows sponsored by the SC State Fair and the Trenholm Artists Guild, Conrardy has original works on display in local galleries as well as at the National Agriculture Center in Bonner Springs, KS. His Giclée prints of the Biltmore South Entrance are featured at the Biltmore Gate House Gift Shop in Asheville, NC. Mark is a member of Oil Painters of America.
Conrardy’s oil paintings are unified by a cadmium red light underpainting, typically on a birch-panel substrate. Using mostly analogous colors straight from the tubes, Conrardy applies paint in transparent glazed layers that maintain the vibrancy of the colors underneath. Popular themes in his works include agriculture, architecture, sports, and music, many of which are captured en plein air.
Hunt has had work accepted in local and national juried art shows and added to private and commercial permanent collections. An avid traveler, he is not only a fine-art painter and photographer but also a commercial photographer and a sculptor.
Hunt’s works in this show include both oil paintings and charcoal drawings representing a wide range of techniques. Using his photographs as sources, he creates paintings and drawings focused on landscapes and other natural imagery, recently with an emphasis on interesting and new depictions of shadows.
