Start of school sees COVID increase

With the start of the school year COVID-19 cases are rising in South Carolina.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said reports of COVID-19 in adolescent emergency room visits have almost doubled over the past week; due partly to the EG.5 variant.

It’s highly contagious and affects people who weren’t affected by other strains.
There is also variant BA.2.86 in play. There hasn’t been any cases in South Carolina yet, but it is in the United States.

The usual cautions apply: be sure you’re up-to-date on your vaccines, wash your hands often, cover your coughs and sneezes and stay home if you think you’re sick.

The August 18 Spring Valley vs. White Knoll football game was canceled due to the Spring Valley football team having a surge in COVID cases and other illnesses.
