Columbia Museum of Art Hosts Neon Dreams Fundraiser

The Contemporaries of the Columbia Museum of Art (CMA) will host “Neon Dreams: A Pop Art Affair,” a fundraising event on March 2 from 7 to 11 pm. Presented by Certified SC, the event aims to celebrate artistic expression, community engagement, and philanthropy, supporting the CMA’s mission to enrich the community through the power of art.

Morgan Watson, the Contemporaries gala chair and external relations events manager at the University of South Carolina, expressed excitement about presenting “Neon Dreams: A Pop Art Affair.” The event is designed to capture the essence of artistic innovation and community support. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the spirit of pop art and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the city.

Inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Indiana, “Neon Dreams” promises a night where reality and art converge in a neon-infused dream. Attendees are invited to don vibrant attire, immersing themselves in a world of creativity and glamour illuminated by neon lights.

The event anticipates over 300 attendees, offering a unique blend of philanthropy and entertainment. Guests will enjoy music from the B Muzick Band and D.J. Preach Jacobs, along with amenities such as heavy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar featuring liquor, beer, and wine. The custom-made menu, provided by Southern Way Catering, includes a Peak Drift biergarten, Smoked SC spritz bar, and activation stations from vendors across Columbia.

A central highlight of the evening is the silent art auction, featuring works from both local and regional artists. With over 40 pieces available, including oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings, as well as state-of-the-art digital printmaking, the auction aims to showcase diverse artistic talents. Notable artists contributing to the auction include Lara Dann, Victoria Rickards, Shelby LeBlanc, and Ija Monet Charles.

Proceeds from the event, including the art auction, directly support the Contemporaries’ art acquisition fund. The fund is dedicated to acquiring new and compelling pieces for the CMA’s collection, contributing to the growth and diversity of the museum’s holdings.

“Neon Dreams: A Pop Art Affair” promises an evening of artistic celebration, community engagement, and philanthropy, reinforcing the vital role of art in enriching and connecting communities.
