Youth Angling Day to Kick Off Kayak Championship at Gibson Pond Park (Page 83)

Lexington, SC – The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) and USAngling are excited to present "Youth Angling Day" on Thursday, September 26, at Gibson Pond Park in Lexington. This event serves as the official start of the 2024 Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship, a prestigious competition that will unfold over the following three days on Lake Murray.

Youth Angling Day is a free, family-friendly event designed for children ages 4-18 of all skill levels. The event offers young participants a hands-on introduction to the world of fishing, guided by the International Game Fish Association’s (IGFA) Passport to Fishing Program. Participants will receive expert instruction from USAngling athletes, coaches, and ambassadors, making this an educational and fun experience for all.

Event Details:

  • Date & Time: Thursday, September 26 | 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Location: Gibson Pond Park, 241 Gibson Road, Lexington, SC 29072
  • Open to: Children ages 4-18 of all abilities
  • Cost: Free participation
  • Parental Supervision: Required for children under 16 years old

What to Expect:

  • Fishing Instruction: Learn to fish with guidance from USAngling professionals.
  • Tackle Introduction & Knot Tying: Get practical experience with fishing gear and knot-tying techniques.
  • Casting Games: Enjoy fun and interactive casting games with spinning rods and reels.
  • Fishing Stations: Engage in the excitement of fishing on the pond, with experts on hand to guide hook handling, baiting, and fish releasing.

“We’re thrilled to bring Youth Angling Day to Gibson Pond Park,” said Vickie Davis, Senior VP of Funding and Events at CCLMC. “This is a fantastic opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the world of fishing, learn from the pros, and enjoy a day of fun and education.”

About the Championship: The 2024 Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship, running from September 27-29, will feature elite kayak anglers from around the globe. Competitors from the USA, Canada, Mexico, and other nations will compete on the scenic waters of Lake Murray. This event highlights the best in international kayak fishing, with Pan American nations vying for the 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship title.
